Super Play
While I was still in London working on Anime UK I was asked to do a cover illustration for a new games magazine being produced in Bath by Future Publishing. Super Play was a Super Nintendo mag that had anime, manga and Japanese culture as its hook. Not only would it cover UK releases but it'd also tell you about all the weird and wonderful games that the Japanese were playing even though they were never likely to appear in the West. Someone must have liked it because I eventually moved down to Bath to work as a designer on the magazine and by the time it came to a natural end I had illustrated all 47 covers and here they all are.
Looking at them all in one go I can definitely see a progression as I (hopefully) got better and transitioned to using the computer a lot more (I think #28 was the first issue to be coloured up on the screen). Still only got Mario to actually look like Mario on #46, though. That spacesuit design came from a Satellaview brochure fact fans.
