Anime UK
This is where it all started, I guess. Anime UK began as cool little fanzine, produced by Helen McCarthy and Steve Kyte, for those that had just started to discover the delights of Japanese animation in the late 1980s (that'd be me, then). I was, at the time, working for a little graphics studio in London and somehow managed to convince my boss - Pete - that it would be a good idea to turn it into a 'proper' magazine. Time has probably addled my memory but I'm sure I promised him that we'd ride the inevitable wave of massive anime popularity to untold riches and fame.
Yeah, about that Pete...
It never really occured to me that none of us had ever produced a magazine before but I suspect that Anime UK was probably all the better for it. I got to layout a magazine, draw covers and learn along with everyone else. I also got to be amongst some really talented people, many of who also had Anime UK to thank for starting them off on new careers.
